“Sometimes they [passengers] would open the door to get in the taxi and they see a woman and they say sorry I thought you were a taxi. I’d say come in yes I am a taxi get in.”

— Noor El-Aine El-Fahkri, 2011

Presented by the Australian Lebanese Historical Society of Victoria, the Behind the Wheel conversation focuses on Lebanese migration and the taxi business.

A panel of three former taxi drivers, both men and women, will share their unique stories and diverse experiences in the taxi industry.

Convened by Christine Eid, the conversation will explore the migration, working lives and diversity of rich experiences of Melbourne’s former taxi drivers Noor El-Aine El-Fahkri, Tony Radi and Joseph Harb.
